Those who have passed 6 months after taking the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine are being given booster dose. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that other people will also be brought under booster dose in phases.


She made the remarks in response to a written question from Tangail-6 MP Ahsanul Islam (Titu) during a question and answer session in the 11th National Assembly on Wednesday (January 26).


Sheikh Hasina said, "Immediately after the outbreak of corona in the world, my government has made it a priority to provide free vaccines as an effective measure to prevent infection. To this end, we took all the initiatives to collect and administer vaccines even before the corona vaccine was discovered and used. As a result, the nationwide free inoculation against coronavirus started on February 7 of 2021 and is continuing.


She said, "Under the nationwide vaccination program till January 18, 8,91,63,978 (eight crore ninety-one lakh sixty-three thousand nine hundred and seventy-eight) people were given first dose and 5,70,20,834 (five crores seventy lakh twenty thousand eight hundred and thirty-four)." A total of 14,61,84,812 (fourteen crores sixty-one lakhs and eighty-four thousand eight hundred times) people have been vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine including the second dose.


The Prime Minister said, "Considering the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the country like all over the world, the Government of Bangladesh has also decided to administer booster dose as part of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination program." In this regard, as per the recommendation of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group, Bangladesh (NITAG, B) and subject to the approval of the National Committee on Implementation of Coronavirus Vaccine Program, administration of booster doses has been started nationwide from 28 December 2021. At present, booster doses are being given to people in their sixties, frontline health workers and expatriate workers.


Those who have passed 6 (six) months after taking the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine are being given a booster dose. Other populations will also be brought under booster dose in phases. A total of 7,41,265 (seven lakh one thousand forty-two thousand and sixty-five) people have been given booster doses till January 17.


In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, the government is currently vaccinating all the people of the country through 718 permanent centres, 6058 temporary / campaign centres and 13,967 community clinics (during the campaign). Vaccination is currently underway at the ward level with the aim of bringing 80 per cent of the population under vaccination by March 2022.
