The agitating students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) broke their fast on the assurance given by Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
On Wednesday (January 26) at around quarter past 10 am, Prof. Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Prof. Dr Yasmin Haque rendered water on the mouths of the students on hunger strike.
Earlier, around 4 am, Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife came to see the students on hunger strike. They talked to them. He requested to break the fast. At that time, the students agreed to break the hunger strike if he promised to be by their side.
On January 19, from 3 pm, 24 students went on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor. Meanwhile, a family member of a student who went on hunger strike fell ill so he returned home. Later last Sunday, five more students joined there.
They announced that they would continue their hunger strike until the Vice-Chancellor resigns. However, the students have taken an oath to continue the movement till their demands are met.
