Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the police personnel to perform their duties with professionalism to maintain internal peace, stability and uphold democracy in the country. She made the call while inaugurating 'Police Week-2022' on Sunday (January 23) morning.

The Prime Minister has virtually connected the Police Week celebrations at Rajbarbagh Police Lines through a video conference from Ganobhaban.

Addressing the police personnel, Sheikh Hasina said, "Remember - the long struggle of the Father of the Nation for 24 years and the victory of the Liberation War which brought us this freedom. The freedom gained in exchange for the blood of your ancestors must be protected from all harm. "

The Prime Minister said, "I believe that every member of the police will perform his duties with professionalism to maintain the internal peace and stability of the country and uphold democracy through people-friendly policing." Above all, the Police Week celebrations will inspire the Bangladesh Police to work in new ventures to develop a culture of peace, which is my expectation. '

The Prime Minister also quoted the speech of the Father of the Nation and called upon the police personnel to move forward keeping the tradition of their predecessors. Speaking at the first Police Week celebrations in Rajarbagh on January 15, 1975, the Father of the Nation said, "We must remember those who were martyred in this Rajarbagh. They are your brothers, so do not let their blood go in vain.'

Recalling the BNP's destructive activities, she said, "They have carried out various acts of arson, cutting down trees, cutting down roads, and even attacking the police." How the policemen were brutally beaten cannot be described in words. By doing such heinous deeds they wanted to create a turbulent environment in the country. There is no limit to how many people they have killed.” The Prime Minister thanked the police for their bravery.

Sheikh Hasina said, "At that time, the police force dealt with the situation very efficiently and brought peace and security in the lives of the people." They also risked their lives. She sincerely thanked everyone for this.

On the occasion of Police Week, members of the Bangladesh Police performed a smart parade. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan inspected the parade in an open jeep on behalf of the Prime Minister and received salutes.

He also distributed police medals among the meritorious police personnel on behalf of the Prime Minister.

A total of 230 police personnel, including 115 in 2020 and 115 in 2021, were awarded medals on the occasion of Police Week. 17 of them were posthumously awarded medals. RAB Director General and Additional Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun are among the awardees.

Medals include Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) -Service, Presidential Police Medal (PPM), Presidential Police Medal (PPM). The Prime Minister hoped that others would follow suit and follow in the footsteps of the recipients.
