Druglords engage gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar. At that time one Rohingya along with five lakh pieces of yaba was detained.
The incident took place around 12:30 am on Sunday (January 9).
The matter has been confirmed by RAB-15 CPC Commander Major Sheikh Yusuf Ahmed.
Detained Syed Hossain is a member of Rohingya nation. According to RAB sources, he confessed to being involved in yaba trafficking during the preliminary interrogation.
According to RAB, with information of a consignment of Yaba to be shipped to Bangladesh from Myanmar on Sunday night, RAB took position at Balukhali bridge. As RAB signalled a team of drug dealers to stop, noting their presence, they opened fire. RAB also fired in self-defense. One person was held after exchanging 21 rounds of ammunition. After searching the area, 5 lakh pieces yaba were recovered in sacks. The detained Rohingya youth would be handed over to Ukhia police station after filing a case against him.
