The incident took place in 2007. B-Town beauty Shilpa Shetty invited Hollywood star Richard Gere to the stage at a function in Rajasthan. At the Hollywood-Bollywood reunion, the audience in front of the stage was overjoyed. Then Richard came on stage. The Hollywood star kissed Shilpa on the lips just when everyone was busy looking at Richard. Seeing this, the eyes of all the spectators present on the occasion were on their foreheads. The appealing Bollywood actress had no objection to Richard's kiss that day.
However, many people objected to this kiss of Richard and Shilpa. Then the discussion started with such a kiss in public. The media produces many writings. Obscenity was blamed on Shilpa. A case was also filed against the actress under sections 292, 293 and 294 of the Indian Penal Code.
Shilpa finally got the verdict in that case after 15 years. Citing the court, Indian media reported that the deliberate obscenity against Shilpa was baseless. After the incident, the actress explained her position clearly. Shilpa had no role in this incident. The court then acquitted the Bollywood actress from all charges.
It is to be noted that after this incident in 2007, two more similar cases were registered in Rajasthan. Another one is filed in Ghaziabad. Then in 2017, Shilpa requested that the case be heard in the Mumbai High Court. Finally, 15 years after the lawsuit was filed, the Mumbai Metropolitan Magistrate's Court ruled that Shilpa was not guilty and that the charges against her were baseless.
