The 35th edition of the Federation Cup Football , the country`s top-tier Club Football Tournament, begins on Tuesday (December 26) at two separate venues across the country. Two matches will be held on the opening day (Tuesday).
BPL & Independence Cup champions Bashundhara Kings will start their campaign taking on Fortis FC in a Group C match at 2:30 pm at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj.
Bangladesh Police will play Rahmatganj MFS in a Group A match also at 2:30 pm at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj in the other opening day`s match, UNB reports.
The next matches will be held after about three weeks later on January 16.
Holders Dhaka Mohammedan SC will play Chittagong Abahani Ltd at 2:45 pm at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj while runners- up Dhaka Abahani Ltd will face Brothers Union Club also at 2:45 pm at the Bashundhara Kings Arena here in Group B matches.
The ceremonial draw of the 10-team Federation Cup Football Tournament was held in the 2nd week of this month with two arch- rivals -- defending champions Dhaka Mohammedan SC and runners-up Dhaka Abahani Ltd-- putting in Group B.
All the ten Premier League teams, split into three groups will compete in the first phase of the Federation Cup Football , initially on league basis matches.
The matches will be held in country`s three different venues---Bashundhara Kings Arena, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni in Gopalganj and Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
The Federation Cup Football matches will be held on every Tuesday of the week alongside 10- team prestigious Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, scheduled for every Friday and Saturday.
The four quarterfinals of the Federation Cup Football will be held on April 2, 16, 21 and 30 respectively, two semifinals billed for May 7 and 14 while the final match scheduled for May 21.
Grouping of Federation Cup Football are:
Group A -Bangladesh Police FC, Sheikh Jamal DC and Rahmatganj MFS
Group B - Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Dhaka Mohammedan SC, Chittagong Abahani Ltd, Brothers Union Club
Group C - Bashundhara Kings, Sheikh Russel KC and Fortis FC.
