Awami League leaves 7 seats for 14-party alliance partners

The ruling Awami League has decided to leave seven seats to its 14-Party Alliance partners in the upcoming parliamentary election.

However, Awami League will formally announce on Friday where they would give up its candidates. However, the 14-Party Alliance candidates will have to face the Awami League‍‍`s independent candidates in those seats.

The decision was taken at a meeting with the partners, said the alliance coordinator and AL presidium member Amir Hossain Amu on Thursday night.

"We sat with the 14-Party Alliance leaders today (Thursday) where we have finalised our decision. We (Awami Leage) has left three seats to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), three to Workers Party and one to Jatiya Party (JP)," he said.

Sources inside the Awami League said decision has been taken to leave seven seats to seven candidates of three political parties. Workers Party‍‍`s three incumbent members of parliament will remain, while one of the three incumbent MPs of Jasad has been excluded and joined by one candidate afresh, and one seat for Jatiya Party‍‍`s (JP) has been given. Among the 14-Party Alliance candidates, Tariqat Federation chairman Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari from Chattogram-2 constituency has remained in the exclusion list.

According to the decision, the Awami League leaves three seats to Workers Party -- Barishal-3 constituency to Rashed Khan Menon, Rajshahi-2 to Fazle Hossain Badsha and Satkhira-1 to Mostafa Lufullah Ahsan; three seats to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) -- Kushtia-2 to Hasanul Huq Inu, Laxmipur-4 to Mosharraf Hossain and Bogura-4 to AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen;  and one seat to Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) -- Pirojpur-2 to Anwar Hossain Manju.

All the above candidates will have to contest in the election with ‍‍`Boat‍‍` symbol.

Sources said no seat has been left for Jasad general secretary Shirin Akhter. However, she will be made MP from a reserved seats for women after the election.
