The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the High Court`s anticipatory bail order against Dhaka district BNP general secretary Adv Nipun Roy Chowdhury in four cases, including the Chief Justice`s residence attack case.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order.
Earlier, four separate petitions were filed by the state seeking stay on the HC`s bail orders.
Senior lawyer Barrister Badrudozza Badal, Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol were present in the court on behalf of Nipun Roy. Attorney general AM Amin Uddin and deputy attorney general Sarwar Hossain Bappi represented the state.
Barrister Badrudozza Badal said, "There was no specific allegation against Nipun Roy in the Chief Justice`s residence attack case. Later, the SC upheld the High Court orders that granted anticipatory bail to BNP leader Nipun Roy."
She was granted the bail till January 11 in the cases filed with Ramna, Paltan and Keraniganj Police Stations. The court also asked her to appear before a trial court within this period.
