Mahia Mahi announces for appeal after cancellation of nomination form

District Returning Officer (DRO) has cancelled the nomination paper of Independent candidate from Rajshahi-1 constituency actor Mahia Mahi after finding anomalies during scrutinization of voters‍‍` names and signatures provided by her.

DRO Shamim Ahmed cancelled her nomination paper on Sunday. Immediately after it, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote‍‍`s joint general secretary Sharmin Akter Nipa (Mahia Mahi) claimed that the names of the voters and signatures provided by her were correct.

"I will make an appeal for securing the validity of my nomination. I can solemnly declare that the names of voters and their signatures provided by me were accurate. I will mainly appeal for it. At a place, the District Returning Officer said that I took the signature of a voter who is not a voter of this constituency. But, I took the signature of a person who is a voter of the constituency and his name is on the voters‍‍` list. So, I didn‍‍`t commit any mistake here," Mahi said.

She further said that she sought Awami Legue nomination in two constituencies, but didn‍‍`t get. "However, I have decided to contest in the election as an independent candidate from this seat and starts working accordingly."

Earlier, Rajshahi deputy commissioner and DRO Shamim Ahmed said the names of the voters and signatures probvided by actor Mahia Mahi were not found valid after scrutinization. Usually, the names of 10, out of the voters mentioned by a candidate is scrutinised. Of them, information about three were not found. On of them is a voter of Chapainawabganj. "So, her candidature was cancelled."
