Both Awami League and Jatiya Party have announced their candidates from Dhaka-6 constituency for the coming 12th parliamentary election.
Awami League has nominated its central executive committee member and former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Syeed Khokon in Dhaka-6 constituency, while Jatiya Party has given nomination to its presidium member Kazi Firoz Rashid to this seat.
Earlier, Jatiya Party`s Kzi Firoz Rashid was elected member of parliament as Awami League led `Mohajot` candidate twice in 2014 and 2018 from Dhaka-6 constituency.
After receiving nomination, Sayeed Khokon said, "Boat is now only Sheikh Hasina`s or Awami League`s symbol, rather it has become the symbol of development of Bangladesh. Our leader has announced that Bangladesh would be `Smart Bangladesh`. I want to join the efforts of building `Smart Bangladesh` with the inhabitants of Old Dhaka. I want to offer this Dhaka-6 constituency as a gift to Sheikh Hasina."
Dhaka-6 constituency comprises ward numbers 34, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46 of the DSCC. A portion of Wari, Gendaria, Sutrapur and Kotwali has fallen under the jurisdiction of this constitution. The number of voters is 2,69,276.
Awami League`s Mizanur Rahman Dipu was MP of Dhaka-6 constituency in 2008. He won the election defeating BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka by some 30,000 votes. In 2014, the seat was given to Awami League`s partner Mohajote. Kazi Firoz Rashid got nomination from Jatiya Party. He was also elected from `Mohajote` in 2018. BNP`s Mirza Abbas was MP in this constituency twice -- 1991 and 2001. Awami Legaue`s Saber Hossain Chowdhury was elected in this constituency in 1996.
