Bangladesh Kalyan Party chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim and Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) chairman Zulfiqar Bulbul Chowdhury have been expelled from the 12-Party Alliance.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the alliance held on Wednesday afternoon.
Leaders at the meeting said Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim has assumed the role of `traitor and betrayer` throwing the country`s sovereignty, democracy and people`s rights into fire. He took the government benefits in the name of anti-government movement. He betrayed with the country`s people and freedom-fighter by taking decision to join the illegal parliamentary election under the fascist government. His role can be compared with Rasputin. He will be considered as "Mir Zafar and traitor` in future for betraying with the countrymen at such a critical time of the country.
Expelling Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim from the post of spokesman of the alliance, Bangladesh LDP secretary general Shahadat Hossain Selim was given the charge of new spokesman of the alliance.
