Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board`s meeting will be held on Thursday (November 23) at the party`s Dhaka district office at Tejgaon in the capital.
The meeting will finalise the list of `Boat` candidates for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad elections.
Awami League presidium member and National Election Conducting Committee`s co-chairman Kazi Zafar Ullah has said that the nomination will be finalised from the meeting.
AL office secretary Biplob Barua said the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board`s chairman Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the Thursday`s meeting. The candidates of `Boat` symbol will be finalised at the meeting.
The party sources said the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board`s meetings used to be held at the party president`s Dhanmondi office and Prime Minister`s official residence at Ganabhaban. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not hold any political activities at Ganabhaban during the election this time. She rather hold the party`s political activities at Tejgaon office of the Dhaka District Awami League. On the first day of the meetings, the nomination for parliamentary constituencies of Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Khulna divisions will be finalised.
AL`s nomination form selling and submitting process started on Saturday last (November 18). Today (Tuesday) was the fourth and last day of this process. Hundreds of nomination seekers and their followers thronged the AL central office at 23, Bangabandhu Avenue on Tuesday, on the last day of nomination submission, ahead of the national polls scheduled for January 7. However, no such crowd was seen in the form collection booths on Tuesday.
On Monday, AL office secretary Biplob Barua said 1,074 aspirants bought nomination forms on the first day on Saturday (November 18), 1,212 on the second day on Sunday (November 19) and 733 on the third day on Monday (November 20). So, 3,019 nomination forms were sold in three days. Awami League has earned Tk 15 crore 9 lakh 50 thousand by selling the nomination forms.
Ten booths were set up at the party`s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital for eight divisions. Forms were sold from those booths. It continued until Tuesday (November 21). This time, the AL nomination form was sold at Tk 50,000 each. Once the sale of nomination forms is over, Awami League will finalise its candidates in 300 constituencies after the scrutiny of the nomination board.
