Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader has said that there is a possibility that the government may face sanctions if "we take part in the next election."

He said the congenial atmosphere to take part in the election has not been created yet. "There is a possibility of facing sanctions we take part in the election."

GM Quader made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of Jatiya Party‍‍`s central executive committee meeting at Institution of Diploma Engineers‍‍` auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.

The Jatiya Party chairman said: "You have given me the responsibility of taking final decision. I require to think various issues. If we join the election in such a situation and then the government face difficulties, what will happen?"

"If there is not a free, fair and participatory election in the country, and the government doesn‍‍`t hold dialogue, we may face sanctions for taking part in the election," he said, adding that the government would surely face a major sanction if it tries to hold the election without holding dialogue with major parties.

GM Quader said, "We have received a letter from the United States. It is a very significant letter. It is an official letter from the United States. They want dialogues among political parties in Bangladesh. We have also been laying emphasis on dialogues. We don‍‍`t want to seek mercy from any political party. As a party, we are now much powerful."

The JaPa chairman also mentioned that the statement of US Ambassador Peter Haas was the statement of the US government. "It has been understood that Ambassador Peter Haas has not made any personal statement so far. He rather made the statements of the American government. The US has now want to see dialogues among the ruling party, opposition party, even BNP.
