Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today asked for forming a high-powered committee to probe the secretariat building fire as the blaze came under full control after around 10 hours of frantic efforts.
The home adviser said he has already instructed the authorities concerned to form a high-powered committee to probe the fire incident as he visited the site in the morning.
He said the real cause of the fire would be known through an investigation.
"We can`t say anything whether the fire was sabotage or accidental without conducting investigation," he also said replying to a question.
Earlier, the fire that broke out in the building number 7 of the Secretariat here was completely brought under control around 11:45am, sources said.
Fire Service`s Media Officer Md Shajahan Shikder told BSS, "We have doused the flame completely around 11:45am today".
The home adviser however also said accident may happen in any place including the Secretariat.
He said the fire broke out at the sixth floor of the number 7 building at the secretariat and then it spread to seventh and eighth floor.
The extent of the damage due to the fire could be known after a thorough investigation, he added.
A fire fighter (Soanur Zaman Nayan) was critically injured being hit by a speedy truck in front of the Secretariat as he was crossing the road with a water pipe, the home adviser said.
Nayan was rushed to the hospital where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead, he added.
The drive along with the truck has already been arrested.
The namaj-e-janaja of Nayan will be held at Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters after Zohr prayer.
The home adviser will be present at his Janaja.
Fire service sources said initially, eight fire engines started working to douse the flames, but later, 11 more units joined the efforts.
The firemen reached the spot within two minutes after the fire broke out at 1.52am today.
Military, police, and Armed Police Battalion (APBN) assisted the fire fighting units to put out the flames.
Two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at the site after the fire broke out, said a short message from the BGB.
