The government has announced general holiday on January 7 for holding the 12th parliamentary election across the country.
The holiday was announced through a circular signed by Public Administration ministry`s deputy desretary Sonia Hasan at the order of the President on Thursday (December 28).
Two days -- January 5 and January 6 - are weekly holidays which fall on Friday and Saturday. With this, the government employees are going to get three consecutive days of government holidays.
The circular reads that the decision was made to facilitate the exercise of voting rights for people working in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private organizations and teachers of government and private educational institutions.
Earlier on Dec 24, the Election Commission (EC) requested the Public Administration ministry to declare January 7 as a general holiday.
