There is no specific threat of terrorism centering the upcoming 12th parliamentary election, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Monday.
He said, “Casting vote is a democratic right of people and refraining from casting vote is also a democratic right. But to obstruct someone for voting is not a democratic right. It is the constitutional responsibility of every citizen, people`s representative, and law enforcers to resist those who try to obstruct people from voting”.
He made the remark while talking to reporters after attending a view-exchange meeting with the councillors of Dhaka metropolitan city held at DMP headquarters in the capital on Monday.
The DMP chief said the views exchange meeting was held to encourage them to make resistance for those who discourages people for balloting.
He said that the councilors informed them that people of their respective areas are interested to cast their votes spontaneously and they believe that people will come to cast vote.
Additional police commissioner of DMP AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional commissioner Dr Mahid Uddin and high officials concerned of police were also present.
