The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained nine people for their alleged involvement in setting fire to Dhaka-bound ‘Mohanganj Express’ that killed four people on December 11.
After analysing CCTV footage and related events, the elite force detained the nine people from Airport Railway Station area of capital in connection with the arson attack, said RAB-1 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mushtaq Ahmed at a press briefing at Airport Railway Station on Thursday night.
In a joint operation with the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the elite force raided the area on Thursday evening.
Names of the detainees, however, were not disclosed at the briefing.
The RAB official said these men were previously involved in sabotage activities during the ongoing hartal-blockade.
There are several cases against the detainees on charges of mugging and sabotage in railway areas. He also informed that the detainees work in exchange of money to carry out sabotage and implement agendas of some vested quarters.
They will interrogate them and will take legal action accordingly.
He further said RAB would disclose if they arrest the mastermind or anyone involved in the fire.
On Tuesday (19 December), four people including a mother and her child were killed as three compartments of Mohanganj Express train were set on fire in the city`s Tejgaon around 5:04am.
