Two sub-inspectors of police have been taken on a three-day remand in a case filed on charge of extortion.
Dhaka`s metropolitan magistrate Md Ali Haider passed an order on Tuesday placing them on remand.
The two SIs are Tuhin Kazi and Mashiur Rahman Taposh. They were working at Shah Ali Police Station in the capital.
On Wednesday, sub-inspector Jalal Uddin of the court`s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station`s general registration office, said it.
Jalal Uddin said two police officials were put on remand on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police arrested the two police officials. Then the investigation officer of the case Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station`s SI Altaf Zaman pleaded to court to place them on a seven-day remand. The court granted three-day remand.
There are allegations that the two police officials were involved in extortion, detaining and assaulting people introducing themselves as fake government officials.
The plaintiff of the case, Shahadat Sarker, filed a complaint with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. In his complaint, Shahadat mentioned that Tk 9 lakh were extorted from him by the two SIs. Introducing themselves as the Detective Branch (DB) police, the two SIs waylaid him in front of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University on December 9 and looted cash forcing him to withdraw cash from booths.
