The deep depression over Southwest Bay and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards further, intensified into a deep depression and now lies over the same area at 6:00pm on Saturday (December 2, 2023).
It lies about 1,565km southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,510km southwest of Cox`s Bazar Port, 1,450km south-southwest of Mongla Port and 1,445km south-southwest of Payra Port, said Met office in a special weather bulletin on Saturday evening.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and may turn into cyclonic storm on Sunday intensifying further.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48km of the deep depression centre is about 50kph, rising to 60kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox`s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No. 1.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
