Jagannath University (JnU) student Khadijatul Kubra has finally received bail in two separate cases filed under the Digital Security Act.
She has been in jail for 14 months and 17 days.
The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday granted her bail.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan upheld the bail granted by the High Court to Khadijatul Kubra dismissing two seperate petitions.
Earlier, the petitions were submitted by the state challenging the HC`s bail order.
Now, there is no legal bar for her to walk out of jail. The second semester examination if her will begin on November 20. Khadija will be able to take part in the examination.
Khadija`s bail was cancelled several times in the trial court. Later, her lawyer filed a plea with the HC seeking bail. The HC on February 16 granted bail to Khadija in the cases.
Khadijatul Kubra, a student of Political Science at Jagannath University, was arrested on August 27 after police pressed charges against her in two cases filed two years ago. Since then, she has been in jail as per the court order.
The student has already been denied bail many times.
Kalabagan and New Market police themselves filed the cases on October 11 and October 19, 2020. The student was actually 17 in 2020.
Her crime was hosting a Facebook webinar where a guest speaker made contentious remarks.
