Dengue claims four more lives in 24 hours

Four more people died from dengue fever across the country during the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 1,610 this year.

Among the new deaths, one was reported in the capital and three others were outside Dhaka.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), some 959 patients were hospitalised with viral fever during this period.

Among the new patients, 201 were admitted to the hospital in the capital and 758 are outside it.

A total of 3,567 patients are currently receiving treatment from different hospitals across the country.

As many as 3,10,046 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country this year and 3,04,869 out of the hospitalised patients, however, recovered during the period.

The country recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022, the highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Additionally, the DGHS recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
