Dengue claims 9 more lives, death toll nears 1200

The death toll from dengue fever has neared 1,200 this year after nine more patients died during the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning across the country.

With the new fatalities, a total of 1,190 died so far this year from the mosquito-borne disease in the country. Among the nine, four died in Dhaka and the other five were outside it.

According to the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), 2,609 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever during this period.

Of the new patients, 561 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest 2,048 were outside the capital, DGHS said.

A total of 8,224 dengue patients, including 2,410 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

So far, the DGHS has recorded 2,44,698 dengue cases and 2,35,284 recoveries this year.

September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data.
