No more saline crisis in the country: DGHS

There will be no more crisis with saline amid the deteriorating dengue situation in Bangladesh, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, director (Hospital and Clinic)of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

He said that they already have received 44,000 bags of saline and distributed those to hospitals as needed through the Essential Drugs Company Limited. Now they do not have any saline shortages.

The DGHS director has said that they have urgently taken action to import 3 lakh bags of saline from India and awaiting approval.

He made the remarks on behalf of the DGHS at a virtual press conference on Sunday.

Dr Habibul said, "We have enough NS-1 kits for dengue testing in stock everywhere. The primary need in dengue patient care is IV fluid saline. There was a temporary shortage of saline, so we urgently imported salines from India.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease reached 909 as 16 more dengue patients died in the country in the 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Among the 16 deaths, seven were reported in Dhaka and nine outside it.

According to the daily update of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), some 3,008 patients were admitted to the hospitals during this 24-hour period.
