The additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in Barishal, Hamidul Alam has been served a show-cause notice by the Election Inquiry Committee, for his alleged involvement in his wife`s polls campaign who is contesting in the 12th parliamentary election as an independent candidate in Bogura-1 constituency.
Bogura Joint District and Sessions Judge also the chairman of the committee Shahnaz Parvin served the notice to Hamidul Alam on Wednesday, confirmed Mahmud Hasan, senior election officer of Bogura.
Citing a news on an online portal, the notice stated that Hamidul Alam reportedly took part in the election campaign of his wife Shahazadi Alam Lipi.
"According to the news, you have taken one month leave to take part in election campaigning using government vehicle," reads the notice.
Incumbent MP and Awami League candidate for Bogura-1 constituency Shahdara Mannan, filed a written complaint on December 24.
She said, "Hamidul Alam Milon, who enjoys government privileges, is influencing voters on her behalf after knowing his wife is likely to lose the election. He is continuously using his power, which violate the electoral code of conduct."
The notice further said that Hamidul upset the whole environment of the constituency which is a clear violation under section 14(1,2) of the electoral code of conduct, 2008.
