Five held with stolen gold, hemp in Khulna

Police in separate drives arrested five people in Khulna city in the last 24 hours on charges of stealing cash and gold ornaments and possessing hemp.

Additional deputy police commissioner Sarder Rakibul Islam disclosed the matter at a press conference held at Sonadanga Model Police Station (PS) in Khulna on Wednesday.

He said a police team of Sonadanga police station arrested three people --Rony Sheikh, 22, Rabiul Islam Robi, 22, and Jumman Molla, 22, -- from Goborchaka area of the city on Tuesday night for stealing cash Tk 50,000 and gold ornaments worth about Tk 4,00,000 from a residence of Sirazul Islam in the area by breaking lock of collapsible gate on Monday.

They also recovered the stolen cash Tk 24,362 and gold ornaments worth about Tk 1, 70,000 from their possession, he said, adding that the law enforcement agencies are trying to recover remain stealing cash and gold ornaments. 

Sirazul Islam had filed a case with Sonadanga Model police station in this connection on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Khanjahan Ali Police in a drive arrested drug peddler Salma Begum, 25, and her husband Morshed Mia, 26, from Shiromoni Uttar para area in the city early Wednesday.

Police also seized 15.800 kg hemp (Ganza) from their possession, he said.

A case was filed with concern policed station.
