Mother, son killed as truck rams motorcycle in Lalmonirhat

A woman and her son were crushed under the wheels of a truck at Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Monday night.

The accident took place at around 7.30pm at Kakina Chapartol area in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Rina Begum, 27, and her son Raihan Hasan, 2, both were residents of Kakina Moishamuri area of the upazila.

According to eyewitnesses, Rina begum along with the her husband Monir Hossain and son were on their way home on a motorcycle. On the way, a stone-laden truck hit the motorcycle at the night. Monir fell off the motorcycle on the side of the road while the truck ran over his wife and son, killing the mother and son on the spot.

Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Kabir said locals seized the truck, but its driver fled the scene.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the spot and kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
