Jamalpur road mishap death toll rises to three

Three people were killed and six others injured in an accident involving a bus, a pick-up van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Titplla bus stand under Jamalpur‍‍`s Sadar upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain, 40, son of late Salim Uddin, of Dhanbari upazila in Tangail district; Shamsul Hossain, 52, son of Abdus Sobhan, of Chhontia village of Jamalpur Sadar; and pick-up van driver Suja Mia, whose age was not known.

Anwar and Shamsul were vegetables traders, Md Mohabbat Kabir, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station.

Critically injured six were admitted to Jamalpur District Hospital for treatment.

The accident took place in Titpalla bus stand area when a Dhaka-bound bus of Shadnan Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway around 6:00am, said police.

After being hit by the bus, the auto-rickshaw rammed the pick-up van, the police said.

Anwar and Shamsul were passengers of the auto-rickshaw, and died on the spot. Two other passengers of the CNG and seven passengers of the human hauler also suffered injuries, the OC added.

All the injured were admitted to the Jamalpur General Hospital where Suja Mia later succumbed to his injuries, the OC said on Friday noon.
