At least seven people were injured during a clash between the supporters of the Awami League nominated candidate and an independent candidate at village Dhakrakol under Khoksha upazila in Kushtia on Thursday.
The injured were Rabiul Islam, 50, Jiku Hossain, 32, Billal Hossain, 40, M Salam Hossain, 40, M Chunnu Pramanik, 35, Amirul Islam, 35, and Hasan Ali, 22.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Khoksha police station Annur Jayed Biplob said the supporters of Kushtia-4 constituency`s Awami League nominated candidate Selim Altaf George and the supporters of independent candidate Abdur Rouf, also an AL leader, locked in an altercation over election campaign on Thursday.
At one stage, they attacked each with locally made sharp weapons, leaving seven people of both groups injured, he added.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
The OC said legal action would be taken against those found involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, additional police personnel were deployed in the area to thwart any kind of unwanted situation.
