Lighter vessel sinks in Karnaphuli

A lighter vessel carrying fertiliser capsized in the Karnaphuli river in Chattogram on Sunday night.

The incident happened at about 9:40pm.

One person is feared missing, it was learned.

Vessel named MV Maksuda-2, carrying around 700 tonnes of fertiliser, capsized near the southern bank of the river, said SI Sanjib Kanti Nath of River Police Sadarghat Station.

Twelve crew members of the vessel managed to swim to an engine-run boat but a private watchman of the imported goods might be missing as no one saw him yet, said the SI.
