Woman gives birth to baby boy in train

A woman has become mother to a baby boy in a running train early Wednesday after the train left Tangail railway station towards Lalmonirhat.

Monwara Begum, 25, hailed from Shaheed Shahjahan Colony under Lalmonirhat Municipality, gave birth in Lalmoni Express train.

It was known that Monwara and her husband were going to Lalmonirhat from Dhaka by the train. After leaving Tangail Railway Station late at night, she suddenly developed labor pain. Some people wake up to Monwara‍‍`s crying sound. At that time, Dr Zahir Uddin, Medical Officer of Patgram Upazila Health Complex in Lalmonirhat district, was present there. The child was born with his help.

Later, according to the advice of the doctor, the railway authorities dropped the mother and child at Ullapara Raiway Station in Sirajganj district. From there, she was taken to Ullapara Upazila Health Complex with the help of police. They were later taken to Lalmonirhat by an ambulance.

Monwara‍‍`s husband Anwarul Islam said, "My wife‍‍`s delivery date was one month later but her labor pain started in train. Later, with the help of other passengers and the doctor, my child saw the face of the world. Currently, both the mother and infant are doing well.‍‍`‍‍`

Dr Zahirul Islam, Medical Officer of Patgram Upazila Health Complex, said, ‍‍`‍‍`I was going to Lalmonirhat after finishing my work in Dhaka. After hearing about the delivery of the woman in the carriage, I proceeded. I helped the mother deliver her baby.‍‍`‍‍`

Lalmonirhat Railway Police inspector Ferdous Ali said the sub-inspector in-charge was instructed to take necessary measures in this regard immediately. There was a doctor in that carriage who assisted in childbirth.
