A total of 11 people, including six children and two women, sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder exploded in Mymensingh city on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Shambhugangj`s Char Kalibari area in the afternoon.
The injured are Tariqul Islam, 35, Sohel Miah, 50, Ismail Hossain, 25, Salma Begum, 25, Kuhinur Akter, 40, Yasin Miah, 5, Sulaiman Miah, 5, Rahim, 4, Tanjina, 4, Mim, 5, and Manik 9.
Quoting locals, Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defence warehouse inspector Mohammad Rokonuzzaman said a local resident named Idris Ali had been selling balloons by inflating them with gas.
He was on Tuesday afternoon inflating the balloons with methane gas from a cylinder and, suddenly, it exploded, leaving 11 people in the surroundings burnt.
Mymensingh Medical College Hospital assistant director Main Uddin Ahmed said the injured, including several in critical condition, are undergoing treatment.
