Police arrested four suspects in connection of killing a union-level Juba League leader murder in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha on Monday
The Jubo League leader was allegedly hacked to death by miscreants in Gaibandha`s Sundarganj upazila early Monday.
Deceased Zahidul Islam, 38, was the president of Sonara Union Awami Jubo League. He hailed from Pashchim Baiddanath village.
Zahidul died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital around 3:30 am while undergoing treatment.
According to the police and locals, the Jubo League leader was returning home from Bamondanga riding on a motorcycle around 11:30 pm on Sunday. Suddenly, a gang of 7-8 armed miscreants waylaid him in Shakha Mara Bridge area on the Sundarganj-Bamondanga road. They hacked Jahidul indiscriminately and also cut off the tendons of his hands and legs.
Critically injured Zahidul was rescued by the locals and was taken to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex. As condition deteriorated, doctors sent him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He died there early in the morning while undergoing treatment.
Sundarganj Police Station officer-in-charge KM Azmiruzzaman said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
