Five more cases filed in Ashulia over RMG workers’ unrest

Five more cases have been filed with the Ashulia Police Station in connection with the attacks and vandalism in different factories in Ashulia industrial area of the capital during the ongoing protest of the RMG workers demanding wage hikes.

The total number of cases has, so far, reached at 17 in which total 61 people have been mentioned and nearly 4,500 accused are unnamed, said Shahidul Islam, Dhaka district additional superintendent of police (Savar Circle).

The official said in these cases, police have so, far, arrested seven people in different times.

Garment workers have been demonstrating for a minimum wage of Tk 23,000. But the government fixed Tk12,500 as a minimum wage on November 7, workers of different factories continued demonstrations rejecting the minimum wage.

So far, four workers, including a female garment worke,r were killed in the recent clashes between police and the demonstrators.
